Awards

The Grand Prize for the Global Environment Award is an awards program established with the special cooperation of the World Wide Fund for Nature to promote greater harmony between industrial development and the global environment. It is intended to promote product and technology development, environmental protection activities and business that contributes to the formation of a sustainable society while further raising awareness of environmental protection.
Asahi Biocycle developed technology that promotes circular agriculture as follows. Through microbial fermentation using THERVELICS®, a composting promoter containing Bacillus subtilis C-3102 , incinerated food waste is reduced by a rate of 95% or higher, which enables the production of high-quality compost using high-temperature fermentation with aerobic bacteria. It can also be expected to increase crop yields when crops are grown in fields where the compost is applied.
Increased use of microbial fermentation technologies with "THERVELICS" has the potential to form a more recycling-based society by reducing food waste incineration and landfill volume through reduced waste while promoting organic farming with compost. In actual application, THERVELICS® reduced food product waste from vegetable scraps and other waste from cut vegetables production by a rate of 95% or higher, and when the compost was used in actual fields, daikon radish yields increased by 51% and carrot yields by 43%.
The technology uses microbial fermentation and no high-tech devices or other equipment, so technical barriers are low, making it relatively easy to introduce in developing countries in Asia, Africa and other regions.
When the agricultural material using brewing yeast cell walls is applied to plants, it:
1Greatly contributes to increased crop yields;
2Enables less frequent use of chemical fertilizers;
3Facilitates stable crop production even in poor conditions, such as less sunlight;
4Reduces greenhouse gas emissions per unit of yield.
As a result, the material can be expected to contribute to the
prevention of global warming and creation of a more sustainable,
recycling-based society.
The EcoPro Awards, while inheriting the philosophy and achievements of the former Eco-Products Awards, was revamped in fiscal 2018 with an eye toward various socioeconomic changes, and is an award system that will be implemented in tandem with the above-mentioned EcoPro Exhibition.
In light of changes in the socio-economic environment, such as economic globalization, the entry into force of the Paris Agreement, and the formulation of the SDGs, the awards recognize products, services, technologies, solutions, and business models that incorporate particularly outstanding environmental considerations and are highly regarded by companies, consumers, investors, and market participants in the Japanese market. By recognizing products, services, technologies, solutions, and business models that are highly evaluated by companies, consumers, investors, and market participants in the Japanese market and that specifically incorporate outstanding environmental considerations The purpose is to promote the further development and diffusion of these products, services, technologies, solutions, and business models, and to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
Award system established in 1974 with the aim of raising social awareness of the environment.
Awards are given to individuals, corporations, organizations, etc. that have achieved results in surveys,
research, technological development, practical activities, etc. which contributes to environmental conservation
and improvement of the quality of the environment.
Our agricultural materials of ”beer yeast cell walls”, utilizing beer brewing by-products, have two functions.
1) Plant activator ; When applied to plants, they enhance the plant's natural immune system,
2) Low Redox potential ; When applied to soil, it is expected to enhance the soil environment.
Our product is originally made of food so we consider safe to use agricultural material for plants.
And it strengthens resistance to diseases by increasing plant immunity, increases yields, improves soil quality,
and improves the quality of agricultural products. It has been proven that greenhouse gas emissions can be also
reduced per harvest and that it can contribute to sustainable agriculture.
This technology received high reputation for its contribution to safe and sustainable agriculture in both Japan and overseas.
By using the composting accelerator "THERVELICS", which is a microbial material containing Bacillus subtilis C-3102 , for microbial fermentation, it is possible to reduce food waste with a weight reduction rate of 95% or more by increasing the decomposition power to organic matter during composting, promoting temperature rise, and draining excess water. In addition to reducing disposal costs, it is expected to reduce the energy generated by waste transportation by reducing the amount of food waste, reduce CO2 emissions generated by incineration by composting instead of incineration, and significantly reduce costs by reducing food waste disposal costs by about half compared to incineration.
The development of this technology to promote a circular economy in which food waste can be reduced by microbial fermentation and reused as compost was highly evaluated.
A contest to discover and nurture the seeds of eco-businesses based on the concept of "From Japan, Eco-enabling the World's Economy!"
The contest aims to discover new business models, promote environmentally conscious management, create employment through eco-businesses, revitalize local communities, and to create a place to meet for mutual support and cooperation.
